Will Fisher to his mother
Camp Strong
October 5, 1861

Mother,

As it rains so this morning I will drop a line home. It is now about 7½ o’clock & we have drilled once & had breakfast. Last night I got into Troy at 7. I found N. Holden here. I expect to be inspected today. I lost a dollar coming down so I have 10 cents. I left my picture for you at J. Whelden’s which she will pay for.
But I must close to go on guard. Tell John and all the rest to write. Ben was going to be down to your place today, if you see him get a little for me to pay postage if not more than 25 ct.

Goodbye for today,
Will
